Experience Rural Life in Ankara 100 years ago: Altınkoy Open Air Museum
5/20/2018 Merhaba explorers!
It’s middle of May!
The weather is pretty good recently. The daytime is getting longer, the sun rises at 5 am in the morning and sets at 8 pm, That’s one of the reasons that I love May since it feels like you are having more time to use during the day and it’s not really hot yet. There are so many nice museums in Ankara, and as the weather is so nice, I decided to go to this outdoor museum. Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi (Golden Village open Air Museum) is an outdoor museum which shows the old village life in Turkey. The museum card is not available in Altınköy, the entrance fee was 5TL. Remember to ask for an English map when you get the ticket. It really helped a lot, since the signs are all in Turkish.
There was also a big map in the village chamber.
One of the reasons of going this museum was this suspension bridge. I saw it from instagram and it motivated me to visit this museum. As this is the suspension bridge, it’s not allowed to walk through. Still it’s a nice spot to take photos. I think it’s a pity that it can’t be walk through. Because the Open Air Museum is in a valley shape, and the bridge located in the middle, it would be nice if visitors can pass through and don’t have to walk down and up hill to travel from north to south part of the museum.
The Wind Mill is one of the most recognising place in this museum and also a nice place for photos.
It’s not just an ordinary museum, you can enjoy the nature here. Another reason to come here during spring is that the grass is green and you can see lots of different kinds of flowers. It’s a good idea to bring some food and spend time on the grass, chat and play with your loved ones!
In this big museum village, there are many small museums showing different parts of life, for example, the laundry place, weaving workshop, toy museum and workshop, wildlife introduction museum etc.
At the toy museum, they exhibit dolls in traditional costume from different regions in Turkey!
The video bellow shows what I saw in Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi, basically it’s in three parts, the environment, live animals and museums!
According to the information from the map, Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi sells different kinds of product they produced themselves. The cows are milked everyday and the by-products like yoghurts and butter can be purchased at the grocery shop. As well as fresh eggs and the fresh grind flour shown in the video. But because the day I visited was a national holiday, the shop did not opened. To conclude, Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi is a nice place to rest and learn. Many parent brought their kids here to learn and to enjoy the green environment. Hope you enjoy this post and see you next time! Altınköy Açık Hava Müzesi
