HONY has not only inspired millions of people around the world, including me, but also spiralled into an international phenomenon. Two years ago when i read the blog, i decided to do something similar to this in Afghanistan. I knew hundreds of stories exists among people from their struggle throughout the war, so decided to take on my phone and record photos and notes of interesting people. It didn’t stop me from doing the same when i was outside Afghanistan.
However, going to random people on the streets and asking to take a photo or wondering about their personal life is not always welcomed unless you know how to do it. So i have prepared a guideline that might be useful in getting your way through with a comfortable interaction.

How to approach a stranger: Rather than the words you use, the energy that you give makes a stranger more comfortable. Your body-language are the first words you communicate without you noticing it. The voice tone you use, the smile on your face and the way you respectfully interact are the best tool to break the ice.

Everyone has a story: Starting with a question that doesn’t provoke any thing personal is always a better decision, such as “What advice would you give?”. Then you are already into a personal experience of someone’s life. From there on you can get what you may not hear from every other person.

What you want to know is different from everybody else: Just like the matchless snow flakes, every human being has a unique story and experience you should look for.

Don’t question a lot: Be careful with the questions you choose, because no matter how friendly you look, more questions leads to a defense mode.

Mahmod SHAMSI – JOURNEY TO MY TRAVELS I was inspired by Human’s of New York blog to create it as something

[6
577,578
